Melbourne Victory look to add to their trophy collection …

Melbourne Victory continue to show why they are the envy of the A-League following their fairy-tale end to the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season. The club secured both Premiership and Championship titles after an impressive campaign both on and off the pitch last season and show no sign of slowing down. With the 2015/16 season well under way, the boys in blue have continued their success, adding yet another trophy to the cabinet following a successful 2015 Westfield FFA Cup bid.

A 2-0 victory over Perth Glory saw Melbourne Victory take out the FFA Cup trophy as the successful second year of the competition came to a thrilling conclusion. Goals from star striker, Besart Berisha and newcomer, Oliver Bozanic, laid the platform for an emphatic Grand Final win in front of over 15,000 fans at AAMI Park.

The Club’s on-field success has continued as they look to defend their Premiership and Championship titles, whilst also gearing up for their upcoming 2016 Asian Champions League campaign set to kick off on February 24 at AAMI Park. Victory have been placed in Group G of the AFC Champions League, alongside Korea Republic’s Suwon Samsung Bluewings, the second-ranked club from Japan and a playoff winner. The Japanese team will be confirmed on January 1, while the playoff winner – either Shanghai SIPG (China), Muangthong United (Thailand) or Johor Darul Ta’zim (Malaysia) – will be decided on February 9.

Melbourne Victory will play six matches as part of the Group stage of the competition, three of which will take place across Asia. The boys in blue are looking to progress to the knock-out stages for the first time in the club’s history, whilst also continuing their A-League title defence.

In other news, the Club has had an enthralling start to the 2015/16 season off the pitch, hosting two successful Victory in Business Luncheons at Crown Palladium. Victory in Business is the largest sport networking group outside of game day in Australia, boasting 110 members and allowing the opportunity to network amongst leaders in business at a number of official functions throughout the season.

Guests were thoroughly entertained with performances from The Voice contestants Hayley Jensen and Lyndall Wennekes, as well as comedian Jimeoin. Chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, John Harnden AM delivered an informative keynote speech to over 1100 guests, as the networking members also gained an insight into the club’s direction for the current season from Chairman, Anthony Di Pietro.

Victory’s title defence will continue as the new year approaches, with a number of important clashes pencilled in the calendar; including the club’s Australia Day U-NITE clash against rivals, Sydney FC.
